Philip G. Clark Sr., 75, of Ogunquit, and formerly of Arlington, Mass., died Sunday, May 27, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mary L. “Molly” (Macrone) and Leo V. Clark Sr. Beloved husband of 43 years to Frances B. “Fran” (Doyle) Clark; the loving father of Philip G. Clark Jr., and his wife, Christine, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Brian F. Clark, and his wife, Michelle, of Saco. He was the dear brother of Mary Rita “Re” Doherty, of Ogunquit and Somerville, Mass., Richard N. and his wife, Cynthia, of Osprey, Fla., Leonard “Skip” of Ogunquit, and the late James E., Leo V. Clark Jr., and his surviving wife, Loretta, of Westford, Mass. He was the devoted grandfather of his cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Calli, of Saco; and he is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Phil was a selectman in Ogunquit for many years, serving as chairman from 1998–2004, before being appointed as Town Manager from 2005-2009. As Town Manager, he appointed the first female police chief. He was also Past Elected Chairman of Wells Sanitary District. He was recognized for his outstanding service to the town upon his retirement in 2009.

Among his other accomplishments, Phil was a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1961. Phil spent two years studying in the seminary with the Stigmatine fathers and brothers in the Boston area. During the 1960s and 1970s, he was a Town Meeting Member in Arlington and was active in local and state politics, helping to manage many political campaigns. After moving to Maine, he became engaged and supportive of the Town of Ogunquit and the community in every way possible and he’ll be extremely missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Ave., Wells, Maine. There will be a funeral procession at 9 a.m. Friday, June 1, from the Bibber Memorial Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Wells. Relatives and friends invited. Interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells. Phil was a late member of Wells K of C and Ogunquit Rotary. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Marginal Way Preservation Fund, P.O.
